His B-17 aircraft severely damaged, and with a fire in the rear fuselage, Lieutenant Colonel Stann left the cockpit and, in intense danger to himself, personally extinguished the blaze and saved the aircraft and crew. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Stann, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
