    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Medical Corps) Dean P. Dimmitt (ASN: 0-419548), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a Medical Officer with the Medical Detachment, 52d Signal Battalion, Far East Air Force, in aerial operations in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations, on 11 July 1942. During the raid on Brome, Western Australia, First Lieutenant Dimmitt displayed unusual calmness, good judgment, and a high degree of professional skill in the care and evacuation of some 20 Dutch nationals who had become casualties as a result of this raid by the Japanese. The untiring efforts of First Lieutenant Dimmitt were directly responsible for saving many lives. His actions throughout the raid and evacuation were highly commendable and are in keeping with the highest standards of the military service.
