The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to First Lieutenant Donald J. Crawford (AFSN: AO-1908643), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy. First Lieutenant Crawford distinguished himself by an act of heroism on 31 May 1951 at a forward airbase in Korea. Upon observing the crash of an F-80 aircraft into an anti-aircraft battery Lieutenant Crawford proceeded to the crash area to assist in the removal of the injured personnel. Lieutenant Crawford realizing the danger involved in approaching a burning aircraft, with complete disregard for his own safety, entered the burning area and removed an injured man from the wreckage. The exceptional courage and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Crawford reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
