During World War II, Darrell Cramer became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 7 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war he transferred to the new U.S. Air Force, and flew in the Berlin Airlift and returned to combat during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1973 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
