Stephen Andrew served in the Pacific Theater downing one enemy airplane in aerial combat in 1942, before returning to the United States to train in the P-47 Thunderbolt. Deploying then to England, he became an ACE and destroyed another 8 enemy aircraft in aerial combat, plus 6.5 more on the ground while strafing enemy airfields, before being forced down due to engine trouble and taken as a Prisoner of War on July 2, 1944. He left active duty in 1951 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel.
