John Paxton was commissioned in the Marine Corps after graduating from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in 1974. General Paxton served from December 15, 2012 to August 2, 2016 as the 33d Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps and retired in 2016 as a 4-Star General.
