Adolph Schwenk attended Wesleyan University, Middleton, Connecticut, prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps Reserve in September 1942. He attended Yale University under the V-12 program until February 1944, when he was sent to Parris Island, South Carolina, and subsequently was commissioned a Marine second lieutenant in 1944. He retired as a United States Marine Corps Lieutenant General.
