The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Carl E. Olson, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in thirty-five bombing missions in the European and North African Theaters. Sergeant Olson has always stayed cool and efficient under the most intense enemy fire. On one occasion he repaired his top turret while under enemy fighter attacks. By accurate shooting he has forced the enemy to withdraw on many occasions and has credit for one enemy aircraft destroyed, one probable destroyed, and one damaged. On 12 January 1943, he assisted in bringing home a Fortress with its turrets and starboard engines shot out. His courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
