The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer George C. Miller, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Chief Warrant Officer Miller distinguished himself on 7 March 1967 while serving as aircraft commander of a CH-47 helicopter engaged in flying critically needed ammunition and fuel to an element of the 11th Armored Cavalry during Operation Junction City near Trai Be, Republic of Vietnam. The cargo was being delivered to a restricted landing zone surrounded by high trees. The mission was interrupted by an abrupt increase in the volume of enemy fire. He volunteered to attempt to continue the mission although one aircraft had already been forced away from the area without delivering the cargo. During the approach to the area his aircraft became the target of hostile fire but, he continued the approach and safely delivered the cargo. Upon departure from the area, he utilized evasive tactics and kept the aircraft from further damage. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
