The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Sherman DeMaris, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights totaling more than two hundred hours over enemy-held territory in Northern Burma during World War II, where enemy fire was probable and expected. Sergeant DeMaris and aircrew members flew troops, ammunition and vital equipment to the forces in this sector. The courage, devotion to duty, and degree of efficiency exhibited by Sergeant DeMaris in the face of enemy opposition, deceiving weather conditions and hazardous terrain reflect great credit upon himself and upon the Army Air Forces of the United States.
