    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class Thomas J. Craig, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Aircrewman of a Torpedo Plane in Torpedo Squadron Forty Four, attached to the U.S.S. LANGLEY curing the Battle for Leyte Gulf, on October 25, 1944. Braving intense enemy anti-aircraft fire, Aviation Radioman Third Class Craig manned his gun with outstanding courage and skill, rendering invaluable assistance to his pilot in launching bold and successful torpedo attacks on a Japanese battleship and a cruiser. His gallant devotion to duty in the face of grave hazards was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
