    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John N. Hart (MCSN: 0-3974), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. While attached to the Second Brigade, United States Marine Corps, First Lieutenant Hart took part in two engagements with hostile bandits, the first when six airplanes attacked bandits on Jicote Mountain on 2 May 1930, and the second when six airplanes attacked and routed a group of bandits under Sandino on Saraguasa Mountain on 19 June 1930. He displayed constant courage and skill while flying over rugged mountainous jungle where a forced landing meant disaster, if not death, under the most trying conditions of wind and weather. His services in maintaining liaison with ground patrols in carrying freight, passengers, sick and wounded, were untiring and extraordinary.
