The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Ralph P. Anderson (MCSN: 465959), United States Marine Corps, for heroism at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 14 January 1944, when, with complete disregard for his personal safety, he swam and towed a partially inflated rubber float through a half mile of heavy sea to courageously assist in saving the life of a drowning pilot, unable to swim or extricate himself from his water-soaked parachute.
