The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class James B. Wilson (MCSN: 825268), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as an ammunition carrier in a mortar squad of Company A, First Battalion, seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Dakeshi Ridge, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands on 10 May 1945. Quick to respond when volunteers were needed for an evacuation mission, Private First Class Wilson repeatedly entered a valley exposed to accurate enemy mortar, machine gun and rifle fire to aid in the evacuation of his wounded comrades and, by his courage and spirit of self-sacrifice, was instrumental in saving the lives of four marines. His heroic conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
