The son of Air Force Lieutenant General Joseph H. Moore, Joseph D. Moore was commissioned in 1955 through the Air Force Aviation Cadet Program. After serving his first tour in the Vietnam War he was selected commander-leader of the U.S. Air Force THUNDERBIRDS. He retired in 1986 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
