John Cooper was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1983 upon graduation from The Citadel. In 2008 he was appointed a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General, received his second star in 2011, and in 2015 received his third star as an Air Force Lieutenant General.
