George McMillan was commissioned in the Army Air Corps after graduating from The Citadel Military Academy in 1938, but resigned in July 1941 to join the AVG “Flying Tigers” in China, where he was credited with destroying 4.5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. When the AVG was disbanded, he returned to the Army Air Forces, netting four more victories in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations to become an ACE, credited with a total of 8.5 enemy aircraft destroyed in aerial combat in World War II. He was killed in action on February 22, 1944.
