During World War II, Frederick Harris became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 8 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. On October 31, 1943, while test-flying a fellow pilot’s P-38 Lightening, he crashed into the sea. No trace of either the plane or Frederick Harris was ever found.

The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Harris, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
