During World War II, Philip Colman became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 6 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war he left the service but joined the Georgia National Guard. Recalled to active duty during the Korean War, he flew combat missions as an F-86 fighter pilot, and was credited with shooting down FOUR MiGs in 86 missions. His total did not reach the requisite five to make him a Korean War ACE (in addition to being a World War II ACE), but did garner him the title DOUBLE ACE with a total of 10 victories between the two wars. After service in Korea he returned to the Georgia National Guard, retiring in 1958 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
