The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant William W. Logan (MCSN: 0-32408), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Leader in Company L, Third Battalion, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 26 June 1944. After assuming command of a rifle platoon, Second Lieutenant Logan led his men in an assault against a strongly organized, well-concealed enemy position and, when his platoon was engaged on its flank and received casualties, braved enemy fire to reorganize his men. Effectively deploying his platoon while under a continuous barrage of fire, he outflanked, charged and annihilated the enemy without further casualties to his unit. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Second Lieutenant Logan and the United States Naval Service.
