The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Everett F. Larson (MCSN: 351720), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, 8 October, 1942. With utter First Class Larson braved the intense fire of the enemy to swim the Matanikau River in a heroic attempt to rescue a wounded comrade. His valiant and self-sacrificing action, in which he lost his life, was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
