The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George W. Graham (MCSN: 655253), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as an Automatic Rifleman of the Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 17 September 1950. When his rifle unit was subjected to heavy enemy fire from a well-concealed position in a wooded area, Private First Class Graham courageously charged the hostile position and, firing his automatic rifle with telling effect, killed three of the enemy and wounded two. Continuing his blazing fire until he was severely wounded and forced to be evacuated, Private First Class Graham, by his daring initiative and aggressive fighting spirit, upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
