The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Platoon Sergeant Aurellio Mario Finco (MCSN: 245560), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Platoon Sergeant serving with the First Battalion, Eighth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan Island, Mariana Islands, 17 June 1944. Courageous and aggressive in the face of terrific fire from Japanese guns, Platoon Sergeant Finco rendered valuable service during initial operations on this strategically important enemy stronghold. While his platoon was receiving intense hostile artillery fire, he succeeded in completing three trips across an exposed area of the platoon sector to carry wounded Marines to a place of comparative safety. Although wounded on the fourth trip, Platoon Sergeant Finco had contributed materially to the ultimate success of this vital campaign pointing toward future victories over the Japanese. His self-sacrificing spirit and heroic action were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
