The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Michael J. Creagh (MCSN: 375662), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as Lead scout of a Ten man patrol of Company B, First Battalion, Twenty-first Marines, THIRD Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Tarague Area, Guam, Mariana Islands on 11 August 1944. When his patrol group suddenly encountered heavy rifle and machine gun fire from an enemy ambush, Private First Class Creagh unhesitatingly braved the hostile fire to silence these weapons. Advancing boldly up a trail he located the ambush and succeeded in killing six of the enemy with his sub-machine gun. Upon returning, he administered first aid to the seriously wounded second scout and evacuated him to a safe position. By his prompt and courageous actions under fire private First Class Creagh enabled his patrol to continue its mission. His initiative throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
