The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Robert L. Brown (MCSN: 525285), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Drive serving with the Second Amphibian Tractor Battalion, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Solomon, Gilbert, and Mariana Islands from 7 August 1942 to 15 June 1944. Courageous and aggressive in the face of terrific fire from Japanese guns, Private first Class Brown landed in the three assault waves and, by his alert initiative and superb ability in operating and handling his vehicle, rendered invaluable service during the invasion and occupation of these strategically important enemy strongholds. His heroic fighting spirit and unfaltering devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Brown and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
