The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Clythell Branson (MCSN: 1200268), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Rifleman of Company F, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 28 May 1952. When his squad was subjected to intense hostile small arms and mortar fire during an attack against a strongly defended enemy emplacement well in advance of friendly lines, Private First Class Branson bravely entered a known enemy mine field to rescue a casualty lying in an exposed position. Mortally wounded while attempting to reach the stricken man, Private First Class Branson, by his outstanding courage, daring initiative and selfless efforts in behalf of a comrade, served to inspire all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
