The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant Douglas H. T. Bradlee (MCSN: 0-50856), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Rifle Platoon Commander of Company I, Third Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 3 June 1951. During an attack against a strongly fortified enemy hill position, Second Lieutenant Bradlee boldly led his men forward in the face of withering hostile small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire to assault and secure the opposing strategic strong points. While bravely pressing the attack during its final stages, he was mortally wounded by enemy fire. By his brilliant leadership and valiant fighting spirit, he served to inspire all who observed him and contributed materially to the success achieved by his company. His marked courage, professional skill and unswerving devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Second Lieutenant Bradlee and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
