The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Mose W. Boyd (MCSN: 280844), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Platoon Leader in Company H, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), during operations against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 25 September 1950. Assigned the mission of setting up a hasty defense, Technical Sergeant Boyd quickly organized his defensive positions and succeeded in repelling a strong hostile counterattack. While covering the withdrawal of the remainder of his company, he repeatedly crossed a ridge swept by intense enemy fire and personally directed and controlled the fire of his platoon, moving from position to position to encourage his men and to assist in the evacuation of wounded Marines to a hastily constructed aid station. By his courageous initiative, inspiring leadership and devotion to duty, Technical Sergeant Boyd aided his company directly in successfully withdrawing to covered positions, thereby upholding the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
