The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Arthur E. Boehme (MCSN: 0-18625), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Leader, attached to Company F, Second Battalion, Eighth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 16 June 1944. When six Marines were wounded about twenty yards forward of the front lines and were unable to rejoin the company, First Lieutenant Boehme organized a party of stretcher bearers and automatic riflemen and, although the company was pinned down by heavy enemy small arms fire, led them to the wounded men and recovered all the casualties. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon First Lieutenant Boehme and the United States Naval Service.
