Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces in the South Pacific Area, General Orders No. 502 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) (Posthumously) to Private Lloyd B. Abbott (MCSN: 470594), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, First Marine Raider Battalion, at Enogai, New Georgia, Solomon Islands, on 7 July 1943. In attacking a strong Japanese defensive position, all of the other men in his squad suddenly were pinned down by heavy enemy fire. Determined to continue the charge, Private Abbott pressed forward alone and succeeded in establishing an advanced position. His gallant action encouraged the other men to quickly follow and push the advance he had started, forcing the enemy to give ground and begin their withdrawal. In delivering the final blow, He gallantly gave his life for his country.
