The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Technical Sergeant Charles Thomas Person, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at the Fuels Hydrants Able Pumphouse on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, on 6 March 1980. On that date, Sergeant Person single-handedly fought and extinguished a fuel fire in a hydrant system underground pump room. His quick actions saved a valuable pump house system, surrounding facilities and aircraft, and quite probably saved the lives of six other people working in the immediate area. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Sergeant Person has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
