    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Ronald L. Kondler (AFSN: FV-3136304), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a helicopter pilot near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam, on 6 October 1967. On that date, Captain Kondler rescued six members of a long range reconnaissance team which had been surrounded by hostile forces. Disregarding his personal safety, Captain Kondler brought his helicopter to a hover over the team and held it as they fought off the attacking force and climbed aboard by means of rope ladders. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Kondler has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Ronald L. Kondler (AFSN: FV-3136304), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a UH-1F helicopter pilot near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam, on 23 July 1967. On that date, Captain Kondler took part in the rescue of a long-range reconnaissance team which was under heavy attack by a hostile force of unknown size. In spite of intense ground fire, the helicopter landed amid the surrounding unfriendly forces and picked up six members of the team, thus preventing their imminent capture or death. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Kondler reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
