By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Grover M. Meade (ASN: 1819462), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private First Class Meade distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Brieulles, France, 28 September 1918. Private Meade was selected to accompany three sergeants who were entrusted with the delivery of an important message. Owing to the darkness and the heavy shell fire, all the sergeants turned back, believing the mission impossible, but Private Meade continued on, and after hours of search and wandering finally succeeded in delivering the message.
