    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Henning Wallin (ASN: 2707872), United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Wallin distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Eyne, Belgium, on 1 November 1918. In the face of intense artillery and machine gun fire, Corporal Wallin and Private First Class Bernioce B. Bryan voluntarily crossed the canal near the Escaut River and with automatic rifle fire covered the advance of the remainder of the company.
