The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Charles Day, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 February 1865, while serving with Company K, 210th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Hatcher’s Run, Virginia. Private Day seized the colors of another regiment of the brigade, the regiment having been thrown into confusion and the Color Bearer killed, and bore said colors throughout the remainder of the engagement.
