Second Lieutenant Rebarchek stormed up a vital hill above Cherbourg, France, leading his company of one hundred and twenty-five men to capture a three hundred man German stronghold. Three times he leaped on top of a tank, rallying his men and keeping the assault moving forward. With only sixty men remaining, they took two hundred and twenty-eight German soldiers prisoner, leaving seventy dead. First Lieutenant Rebarchek’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 4th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
