(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Samuel Anderson McBride (ASN: 0-483300), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 165th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in the vicinity of Magicienne Bay, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, on 24 June 1944. First Lieutenant McBride went out in front of our lines to give medical aid to a wounded soldier and in this heroic act was wounded in the leg, the stomach, and the shoulder. Despite his wounds, he grabbed a radio and revealed the location of the enemy fire, and gave his commanding office the location of every enemy machine gun, while retaining control of his platoon in breaking the enemy counterattack. First Lieutenant McBride’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
