(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Ernest Briggs Lovett (ASN: 6965290), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, from 10 to 25 January 1943. Sergeant Lovett unhesitatingly assumed command of a platoon after his superior officers had become casualties during an attack. He reorganized the platoon and under his leadership they moved forward under dense enemy fire to seize the position and successfully repelled the enemy attack. Sergeant Lovett’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
