As a Merchant Mariner, Herbert Kelly was on the first armed U. S. merchant ship to enter the Russian port of Murmansk during World War II. He joined the Coast Guard in 1943, serving throughout World War II. He retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Captain.

WILLIAM B. OGDEN, which had grounded on a sand reef off the coast of India during World War II.
