An accomplished movie producer, John Ford made many movies for the Navy during World War II, earned two Academy Awards, one for “The Battle of Midway” (1942) and the other for “December 7th” (1943). He was a veteran of the Battle of Midway, where he was wounded in the arm by shrapnel while filming the Japanese attack. He also personally filmed the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. In a 50-year movie career he directed more than 140 films, earning 6 Academy Awards including 4 for Best Director.
