Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 331 (October 1944)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Machinist Wilbur J. Camblin, United States Navy, for heroic conduct during the sinking of one of the pontoons of a floating dry dock at an advanced naval base in the South Pacific Area on 2 November 1943. Machinist Camblin risked his life to aid a man entrapped under the overhead of a nearly flooded compartment. He waited for the instant when the inrush of water subsided and then swam about 20 feet to the surface, carrying the man with him.
