The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Shipfitter First Class Roy C. Stamler, United States Navy, for gallantry in action as a member of a repair party in the U.S.S. PERKINS (DD-377) off New Guinea, 20 October 1943. Shipfitter First Class Stamler gallantly disregarded his own wounded condition to remove other men to the battle dressing station, submitting to treatment for himself only after all other wounded had been cared for. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
