The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Seaman Second Class Eugene A. Pineault, United States Navy, for gallantry in action during the assault on Sicily in July 1943. When severely wounded in the leg and thrown to the deck of the U.S.S. SENTINEL (AM-113), he continued to serve a three-inch gun. Although seriously in need of medical attention, he crawled forward to the ladder leading to the main deck and continued to pass ammunition. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
