    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert Nicholas Exton (ASN: 0-406868), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with an Infantry Company of the 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 12 January 1943. Lieutenant Exton led an assault in the face of heavy enemy fire. Although wounded in the assault, he continued to lead the attack in the face of heavy enemy fire until the ridge was reached. He was killed in action later in the same day. First Lieutenant Exton’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
