    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Electrician’s Mate Charles Murray Bragan (NSN: 442826), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity during the FIRST War Patrol of the U.S.S. TUNA (SS-203, from 26 January to 21 March 1942. His careful training of the electrical force under him was of greatest benefit in maintaining the electrical plant under him at the highest efficiency. His skillful operation of the controllers under surprise conditions was instrumental in enabling his vessel to make its fastest dive when narrowly avoiding being rammed by an enemy destroyer. He contributed distinctly to the success of a commendable patrol under adverse weather conditions and against strong air and surface anti-submarine craft. His actions throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
