    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Robert Jackson Bell (NSN: 6165260), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights as Radio Operator and Gunner in a carrier-based dive bomber in operations against the enemy in the Tokyo area, at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Kyushu and against an enemy convoy in the East China Sea. During the period from 18 February to 17 April 1945, he participated in twenty strikes which inflicted extensive damage upon enemy shipping, airfields and installations. He skillfully and accurately prepared and operated his equipment, making a most valuable contribution to the success of the missions. His courage, skill and devotion to duty were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Robert Jackson Bell (NSN: 6165260), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a gunner and radio operator in a carrier-based dive bomber in the initial attack against a force of the enemy fleet in the East China Sea near Kyushu, Japan, on 7 April 1945. While under the threat of enemy air attack from nearby enemy airfields, and in the face of adverse weather and extremely intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire, he operated his equipment in a highly efficient manner, materially aiding the pilot in the successful accomplishment of his mission. His courage, skill and devotion to duty were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
