When his aircraft after completing a successful attack on an enemy ship, was in turn attacked by enemy fighters and was severely damaged, he helped to beat off the attack although wounded in the shoulder. When he saw that the Radioman had been seriously injured he went to his assistance and by skillfully taking the correct first aid measures he helped to save his fellow crewman’s life. Later, by disregarding his own safety remaining in a hazardous position during an emergency landing so that he might protect the radioman, he exhibited that degree of unselfish loyalty and courage which was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
