The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Quentin “F” Baker (NSN: 0-124161), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Patrol Plane Commander in Patrol Bombing Squadron TWO HUNDRED EIGHT (VPB-208), in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Korean Waters, 14 July 1945. Carrying out a search against hostile shipping and assigned the additional task of acting as DUMBO for a strike being made against enemy shipping and land installations, Lieutenant Baker arrived at the designated rescue point at the time prescribed and, after contacting the returning flight and determining that there was no need for DUMBO services, attacked hostile shipping which he observed in the vicinity, sinking a sea truck with a direct bomb hit. His courage and devotion to duty under hazardous conditions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
