The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class John Horace Anson (NSN: 5654500), United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Korea during the period 23 June 1945 to 24 July 1945. As a gunner and aircrewman of a Patrol Bomber he performed his duties with skill and valor and materially contributed to the success of attacks which sank six enemy ships, damaged eight others, exploded a gasoline dump, damaged shore installations and destroyed a Japanese dive bomber in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire. He inflicted serious damage on the enemy through his accurate gunnery. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
