The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Coxswain Lynn T. Hancock (NSN: 8760941), United States Navy, for heroism during the sinking of the U.S.S. BISMARCK SEA (CVE-95) on 21 February 1945. After abandoning ship, Coxswain Hancock repeatedly left a life raft to rescue men who were having difficulty in the water. These repeated rescues so weakened him that when he was taken aboard the rescue vessel he was in a semi-conscious condition. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
